With all of the things in life that we dream of doing, we can habitually put those things off with a myriad of excuses. However, tomorrow quickly becomes yesterday. Before you know it months or years go by,  and you haven’t done the things you had dreamed of doing. So today, it’s time to talk about what goes on inside the mind of most women when they consider intimate portraiture and the excuses to NOT do a boudoir session.

Have you been thinking about doing a boudoir photo session, but you have made many excuses to put it off? Here are some of the excuses that may keep you from stepping in front of the lens?

1.”I need to lose 10 lbs.”

If we are very honest, most of us have been wanting to lose 10 lbs for 10, 15, or 20 years. That may never happen. What is important to know is that you are beautiful right now, even if you need to lose far more than 10 lbs. I see ladies ALL the time who would tell you that they would love to lose 50 lbs; but they are learning to celebrate who they are right now and they know that sexy doesn’t have a size. On top of that, I am a high end editor, so I do have the ability to remove those last 10 lbs with retouching techniques and software if you want. So you can see that those last 10 lbs really isn’t an excuse to keep you from doing a boudoir photo session.

2.”I have nothing to wear.”

While retail therapy is so much fun, new lingerie is not necessary to have beautiful images. You likely have things already in your closet and drawers that would be perfect for a sexy photo shoot. You may have a sexy bikini, or a great one piece thong bathing suit. Or perhaps you have some cute body suit tops. A tight t-shirt with some cute undies is fabulous. So is a cute cami paired with undies. I’ll bet you own a long cardigan. Perhaps there is a long blazer in your closet. You may have some lacy or netted bathing suit cover ups. A few scarves may be sitting in a drawer just waiting to get a new use. And you most certainly have some sexy jeans or jean shorts available. There may be a leather jacket or a fur coat in your wardrobe that would look amazing with nothing else on. And if you are doing a session as a gift for a man, he may have an oversized button up that he would love to see you model along with his tie. And of coarse, I always have freshly laundered white sheets for you to use if you want to do the rolling in the white sheets at the end of your session. For those who get comfortable enough during a session to do implied nudes, the birthday suit is ALWAYS gorgeous. Yes, you actually have more than enough outfits already to book your session.

3.”I have privacy concerns.”

Everyone that you see on my website has signed a model release giving me 100% permission to share their sexy pictures. But the images that you see on my website only account for a small percentage of what I shoot because a lot of ladies want their images to remain private, and I am extremely respectful of each client’s privacy. You decide where your images are after your shoot, and they will never be posted online without your written permission.

4.”I am afraid to take off my clothes in front of a stranger.”

Getting naked is NOT a requirement!  The studio is a judgement free zone, and I will only shoot what you feel comfortable with.  Nudity may be implied, but the lady bits are usually covered in all of your photographs, unless you ask for some bare breast images or tasteful fine art nudes.  You can be as covered up as you want to be in boudoir portraits.   There is a range of how revealing that you want your photos to be: from fully clothed to a tasteful ILLUSION of nude. I meet you where you are at. You never have to do a pose or wear an outfit that you aren’t comfortable with. And don’t forget that you can feel comfortable revealing more skin in front of the camera, knowing that your images will remain completely private and no one will see them unless you choose to sign a model release at the end of your viewing appointment.

5.”I am sort of shy, and I don’t know how to be sexy.”

Fabulous!  Actually, ladies who do not have a preconceived idea of what “sexy” is supposed to look like are easier to photograph. Every woman on my website is a client, not a model. It is my job to pose you and coach you for the body language of different emotions. Your entire session is guided.  You don’t need to know any of that. Leave that up to me, and I will show you how sexy that you already are.

6.”I don’t have a husband or boyfriend to give these to.”

While using boudoir photos as a gift for a significant other is really nice; the most important person to give this gift to is you. Doing a boudoir photo session is something that builds confidence and self esteem, and it’s a fun day of pampering. Every girl deserves to feel breathtaking whether she has a partner or not. Most women admit to me after a session that they used a spouse’s birthday or an upcoming anniversary gift as a reason to justify doing a session that they really wanted to do for themselves anyway. Being single is not an excuse to avoid wonderful experiences for yourself.

7.”I am not photogenic”

Many ladies on my website feel this way about themselves, but I dare you to find a single one that doesn’t look beautiful. A good photographer will take amazing photos of ANY woman, regardless of her shape, size or experience.  Everything I photograph is posed and coached for emotion.  Directing you through the poses prevents you from worrying if you are doing it correctly and allows you to relax.  I will show you exactly what to do and how to do it. Trust me when I tell you that you ARE photogenic, and I can show you that truth.

8.”I am too old”

These days, 60 is the new 40. I have to tell myself that because I am not the youngest chick in the hen house! But seriously, I am seeing a LOT of women in their middle age and even ladies who have already retired who still feel good and want to celebrate their femininity and sensuality. Sexy isn’t a size or a number – it’s a state of mind. The older you are, the more you have to celebrate! Even though you may not be as toned as you used to be, there’s a certain sensuality and confidence that comes in your middle years. I guide clients with wardrobe selection and pose them to flatter their assets and capture that brave spirit that has only gotten stronger with age!

9.”I cannot afford it”

Doing a boudoir session is a luxury and I don’t know your personal financial situation. But we all make room in our lives for the luxuries that we really want. Perhaps you cannot put down hundreds of dollars right now, but your dream photo session can become a reality by setting up an interest free payment plan. Or you can begin to save for your boudoir photos the same way that you would for a ladies night out, a designer handbag or a trip. A boudoir photography session and the beautiful albums and wall art are an investment. If you want an unforgettable experience that increases your self esteem and provides  you with high quality portraits that you will cherish for a lifetime, you can have it.

10.”I shouldn’t spend the money on myself”

Women often feel guilty if they spend time and money on themselves if they have children or a spouse. But you know that you cannot pour from an empty glass. Your children should have a mom who loves and accepts her own body and is a role model at being comfortable in her own skin. You don’t want your kids to have self doubt and self criticism, and you need to lead by example. And your significant other wants see you as the sexy vixen that they fell in love with. I have often heard men say that the sexiest part of a woman is her confidence. So if you want to be more sexy in his eyes, book a confidence boosting photo session. Investing in yourself is beneficial for your loved ones.

I know that there are likely other excuses not to do a boudoir photo session, but as you can see above – these reasons are just things ladies hide behind. Get rid of all those excuses, and begin to tick things off of your bucket list. If feeling like a supermodel has been on you list – lets make that happen soon.
